Generating a scannable image is not the same as licensing an official retail GTIN from GS1. If you sell through major retailers, confirm you have the right number authority for that channel. For internal warehouse codes, Code128 is often enough.

Which barcode format should you pick?

• Code128 — flexible for internal SKUs and mixed characters
• EAN-13 — common retail standard outside North America
• UPC-A — common retail standard in the US and Canada
• Code39 — older industrial format still used in some systems

Print tips so codes actually scan

• Keep enough quiet space (margin) around the bars
• Print dark bars on a light background
• Do not stretch the image into a non-standard aspect ratio
• Test with the same scanner your warehouse or till uses
